What a photo-to-collage maker actually does

A photo collage takes several separate images and arranges them into one frame so a group of moments can be seen — and shared — as a single picture. Photo To Collage handles the maths of that arrangement for you: it fits each photo into a cell, keeps the spacing even and lets you decide which part of every image stays in view.

The result is a montage you can post, print or keep, built from your own pictures rather than stock art. Because everything happens in the editor, you can go from a folder of photos to a finished collage without installing an app or creating an account.

  • Combine up to 20 photos in one canvas
  • Choose a grid, mosaic, magazine or polaroid arrangement
  • Control crop, spacing, corners, borders and background
  • Export a clean, high-resolution image

Free, private and watermark-free by default

Many online collage tools add a watermark, gate the high-resolution download behind a subscription, or upload your photos to their servers. Photo To Collage does none of these. It is free to use, adds no branding to your export, and processes your images inside the current browser tab.

That local-first approach means your photo pixels, filenames and EXIF metadata are not transmitted to Photo To Collage when you build a collage — a meaningful difference for family photos, client work and anything personal.

Designed for real editing, not just presets

Presets are a fast starting point, but a good collage usually needs small adjustments. Photo To Collage keeps every control within reach: reorder photos by dragging, reposition a face inside its cell, widen the gaps for a calmer look, round the corners, add a border, or switch the aspect ratio for Instagram, Pinterest or an A4 print.

When the composition is right, export as PNG for maximum sharpness, JPEG for a smaller file, or WebP for the best balance — at a size suitable for screens or printing.

Choose the tool settings in the right order

Decide where the collage will appear before adjusting individual photographs. Set the canvas ratio, add your selected images, and choose an arrangement. Detailed cropping comes afterwards: a change from square to portrait changes the shape of the cells and can move a face closer to an edge.

Use Auto when you are still choosing the photo count. Choose a named layout when you want a particular hierarchy, such as one main picture beside three details. The editor arranges existing photographs; it does not generate images, remove backgrounds or blend several exposures into one scene.

Finish a collage without changing the originals

Edits affect the composition in the current browser tab. The original files remain separate. Download the collage before closing the tab and keep the source photos for another version. The exported PNG, JPEG or WebP is a flattened picture, not a project file with editable layers.

For a sharp result, inspect the downloaded image rather than judging only the smaller canvas preview. Use PNG when you want to avoid additional lossy compression of the rendered collage. The source resolution and amount of cropping still determine the available detail.

Questions about photo collage maker with custom layouts

How do I turn my photos into a collage?

Add your photos to the editor, pick a layout (or let Auto arrange them), reorder and crop each image, adjust spacing and background, then download the finished collage. The whole process happens in your browser.

How many photos can I put in one collage?

The editor accepts up to 20 photos, with a 25MB limit per source file. Start with fewer pictures when each face or detail needs more space. Larger collections may switch a fixed layout to an adaptive grid.

Do I need to create an account?

No sign-up or account is required. Open the editor and start arranging your photos straight away.

Is Photo To Collage free to use?

Yes. Photo To Collage is completely free with no subscription, trial limit or hidden export fee. You can create, edit and download as many collages as you like.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The editor decodes and renders your photos inside the current browser tab. Image pixels, filenames and EXIF data are never sent to Photo To Collage.

Will my collage have a watermark?

No. Every PNG, JPEG and WebP download is clean, with no Photo To Collage branding placed on the image.

Can I make this collage on my phone?

Yes. The editor is touch-friendly and runs in mobile browsers, so you can add, reorder, crop and export photos on a phone or tablet.
